Turn Decatur Red
A couple weeks ago, Nancy, Ann and I walked around to Decatur businesses to try to get their support for Turn Decatur Red. In case you don’t know, Turn Decatur Red is a Decatur-wide event put on by 50 Cents. Period. to raise money for sanitary products, water purification and toilets abroad, as well as to provide supplies for refugee women in the Atlanta area. Ann had already gotten many business owners to sign-up for the event, but we still needed more people to commit to make Turn Decatur Red really come alive. The encouragement we have received has been great! So many people are on board to make this an exciting, fun event. Be sure to mark your calendars for October 22nd, because there are going to be special offerings from businesses and activities to benefit 50 Cents. Period. There’s even going to be a red-themed window contest where you can vote for your favorite display! It’s sure to be a wonderful day all in support of a great cause.
Before we could plan all the details of Turn Decatur Red, though, there was a lot of development 50 Cents. Period. needed to do to organize itself. Since its creation, 50. Cents. Period. has grown and taken on many projects to help girls stay in school. All this progress happens so quickly that it’s sometimes hard to tackle everything! The Women in Red decided it was high time to have a full-day retreat to really discuss what it takes to make a non-profit board and organize a Decatur-wide event. He’s a couple inside pics at what’s been going on:

It was quite a day, but by the end I think it was clear that we accomplished a lot. The website is updated and looking better than ever. There is so much hard work going into Turn Decatur Red, and I know it’s going to be a fantastic event.

Great event today! I especially enjoyed the excuse to quaff some wine at Java Monkey and bring home a couple of those cupcakes, all the while feeling like Madame Benevolence.
Glad you enjoyed yourself, Mary. Thanks for coming out, Madame Benevolence!
